Danny Lee Bunting, 95, of Bonifay, Florida, passed away peacefully at home, in his sleep on December 6, 2024. Danny was born in Danville, Illinois on November 16, 1929 to Edward Ward Bunting and Anna Marie Stevens Bunting. Danny is survived by his daughter, Carla Bailey, his granddaughters, Heaven, Hope, Glorie, and Grace Bailey, great granddaughters, Emery, Ialyn, and Saylor, longtime friend Jeff, and his sweet, loving kitty, Cricket who was there to comfort him until the very end. Danny is preceded in death by his sons, Lesli Bunting and Randy Bunting, grandson, Jimmy Bunting, granddaughter, Jessica Bunting, and former wife Jeannie.
Danny grew up in Danville, Illinois where he met Jeannie McDonald whom he fell in love with, married and they had three beautiful children together. Danny enlisted in the Navy in 1952 and proudly served his country for 8 years. After his service in the Navy, Danny worked briefly for a lumber yard and later worked as a metal welder at Esco. He really enjoyed his work and had several fun years there until they eventually closed. That led him to his career working in the police auxiliary alongside his son, Les, leading to several other security detail jobs and roles serving his community. Danny also worked 25 years for CRIS Senior Services delivering meals and support to people in need. Danny really enjoyed this job because he loved socializing and making people smile. Taking bags of candy and handing it to nurses and people he came across while he made deliveries. Danny worked most of his life and loved to work and keep busy. He only retired from working in his late 80’s and thereafter he moved to Florida with his daughter to enjoy his last years in the sunshine with his granddaughters and great granddaughters.
Anyone who knew Danny knows he loved telling stories about his time in the Navy and loved talking about his granddaughters. He taught them how to shoot and be comfortable with a gun. He kept up with them on the phone, texting and calling, even video chats. He used any excuse to see his daughter and granddaughters.
Danny will be missed for his spunky, witty, and charismatic sense of humor. Although his family would have loved a little more time with him, they take solace in knowing he was able to pass at home in his sleep with his beloved Cricket sleeping on his lap.
Services are pending for Danny and will be held at a later date.
