Mr. James Rodney Ward, age 85, of Bonifay, Florida passed away May 29, 2023, at Doctors Memorial Hospital in Bonifay. He was born April 13, 1938, in Harold, Florida. Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Noma Lee Williamson.
Rodney and his family came to Bonifay in 1960. He joined the National Guard in 1961 and served, proudly, until 1968. For twelve years he hauled lighter stumps out of Moody Pasture south of Vernon in Washington County. In 1973 he started logging for Stone Container and Louisiana Pacific and worked all over the Panhandle in the timber fields until his retirement. After retiring from the logging business, he worked fourteen years driving a van for Tri-County Community Council and enjoyed waving to everyone he passed on the road. His greatest accomplishment was providing for his family and loved spending time with his two granddaughters.
Mr. Ward is survived by his wife, of 59 years, Linda Owens Ward of Bonifay, FL; one son, Ricky Ward and wife Melissa of Bonifay, FL; two granddaughters, Madison Ward and Emma Ward both of Bonifay, FL; one brother, Hilton Williamson of DeFuniak Springs, FL.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 31, 2023, in the Peel Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy White officiating. Interment will follow in the Bonifay Cemetery with Peel Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 PM Wednesday at Peel Funeral Home.
